While You Were Drinking: Game 150 (SD vs. PIT)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after a long night at the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking.

The Padres beat the Pirates again and moved their record to 70-80 which means . . . they have a shot at .500? You might be inclined to ask, “How on Earth is this happening? The Padres are over .500 since the All Star Break! How have they just taken two games a piece from Atlanta and Pittsburgh, teams headed for the playoffs?”

To which I would reply, “Have you learned nothing? That’s baseball, Bill.

Eric Stults, irritated by Andrew Cashner and Burch Smith‘s decisions to let the bullpen rest (for the most part) during their starts, decided to only pitch 5 innings last night. It worked out well for him though as he hit the showers early and got the win. Tuesday night was all about Jedd Gyorko as he hit his 19th HR, played stellar defense, and did it all in front of family and friends who made the trip from West Virginia.

Tyson Ross faces Charlie Morton today at 4:05 pm for game three of the four game set.

“The West Virginia Gyorkos, they are coming in buses,” Padres manager Bud Black said. “And Jedd is not disappointing them. The three-run homer, the defense, the base hit in the first inning, he’s doing great. I’m happy for Jedd, I know that Jedd was looking forward to this trip. The West Virginia Gyorkos, they travel well.” [Von Benko]

Jedd Gyorko gives the Padres an early 3-0 lead with his Tony Gwynnth (19th) home run of the season.

What do you think about Ronny Cedeno? The guy has been pretty good.
