While You Were Drinking – 2017 Game 16 (AZ vs SD)

Sometimes things can get a little fuzzy after an evening at the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you may have missed while you were drinking.

The Padres (6-10) scored more runs than the Arizona Diamondbacks (10-6) last night at Petco Park, 1-0.

Jhoulys Chacin (2-2, 4.70) pitched eight shutout innings, with three hits and a walk while striking out five. Brandon Maurer gave up a leadoff single in the ninth inning to A.J. Pollock, but retired the next three batters for the save.

Zack Greinke (1-2, 3.28) matched Chacin for seven and a third innings, giving up a solo home run with one out in the eighth inning to Erick Aybar for the only run. Greinke finished five hits and a walk with six strikeouts over eight innings pitched.

Tonight, starting at 6:10pm PDT, Clayton Richard (1-2, 3.60) gets the start against Patrick Corbin (1-2, 2.81) in the series finale at Petco Park.

Chacin has four starts, and the second and fourth were quality starts with no runs scored. His third start was better than his first, though neither were quality. So the even-numbered starts are great, while the odd-numbered starts are improving. Can we ask for more? Yes, but that’s already more than most people were expecting.
