Sometimes things get a little fuzzy during an evening at the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you may have missed while you were drinking.

The Padres (20-30) scored fewer runs than the Arizona Diamondbacks (22-29) last night, 8-7, in game two of three at Chase Field.

Cesar Vargas (0-3, 5.03) lasted just one and two-thirds innings, giving up seven runs on six hits and two walks with a strikeout. Jake Lamb singled to score Michael Bourn in the first inning. In the second, the Diamondbacks scored six runs. Singles by Chris Owings and Zack Greinke and a Nick Ahmed walk loaded the bases with no outs. Jean Segura hit a sacrifice fly to score Owings, Bourn singled to plate Greinke and Ahmed, and Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run home run. A wild pitch in the fifth inning by Luis Perdomo to Brandon Drury allowed Lamb to come home for the Diamondbacks’ eighth run and final run of the game.

Greinke (6-3, 4.71) pitched six innings, giving up four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two. Matt Kemp put the Padres on the board with a solo home run with two outs in the first inning. Greinke then effectively shut the Padres down until the sixth inning, when an RBI double by Jon Jay scored Alexi Amarista. After a walk by Wil Myers and Kemp’s pop fly out, Jay scored on an RBI double by Yangervis Solarte. Myers scored on a Melvin Upton Jr. sacrifice fly. In the ninth inning, Solarte scored when Derek Norris reached on a two-base throwing error. Norris and Upton later scored on a pinch-hit single by Hector Sanchez.

This afternoon’s series finale pits Drew Pomeranz (4-4, 1.70) against Archie Bradley (1-0, 7.84) at 1:10pm PDT.
