Sometimes things get a little fuzzy during an evening at the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you may have missed while you were drinking.

The Padres (17-25) scored fewer runs than the San Francisco Giants (25-18), 3-1, getting swept by the Giants in three games at Petco Park.

James Shields (2-6, 3.07) pitched six and two-thirds innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on nine hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. In the first inning, after a leadoff walk to Denard Span and Joe Panik‘s single, Matt Duffy grounded out to advance the runners. Span scored on a sacrifice fly by Buster Posey, but Panik was tagged out trying to advance to third base. Leading off the fourth inning, an error by Matt Kemp allowed Duffy to reach base and take second. Duffy scored after a two-out single by Hunter Pence. Brandon Crawford then led off the seventh inning with a solo home run to right-center field for the Giants’ final run.

Jeff Samardzija (6-2, 2.66) pitched eight innings, surrendering one run on three hits and no walks with eight strikeouts. Alexi Amarista doubled to score Christian Bethancourt from second base. Samardzija retired every batter after that until he left the game after the eighth inning. Jon Jay singled to lead off the ninth inning and advanced to third base on two consecutive instances of defensive indifference, but Brett Wallace lined out to end the game.

The Los Angeles Dodgers (21-21) come to Petco Park for a three-game weekend series starting tonight at 7:40pm PDT. Christian Friedrich (0-1, 1.50) takes the mound against Scott Kazmir (3-3, 4.89).
