Sometimes things get a little fuzzy during an evening at the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you may have missed while you were drinking.

The Padres (17-23) scored fewer runs than the San Francisco Giants (23-18) in the first of three games at Petco Park, 5-1.

Colin Rea (3-2, 4.37) pitched five innings, giving up three run on four hits and two walks while striking out two. Brandon Crawford hit a three-run home run to right-center field in the second inning that essentially won the game. But in the sixth, Buster Posey scored on Crawford’s sacrifice fly. And Crawford struck again in the eighth with an RBI double to right field that scored Hunter Pence, but Crawford was then tagged out trying to advance to third to end the inning.

Madison Bumgarner (5-2, 2.45) only gave up one run, on a ninth inning leadoff home run by Matt Kemp that landed on the third deck of the Western Metal Building. But that was all the Padres could manage. Bumgarner gave up five hits, walked none, struck out eleven while pitching a complete game.

There was some excitement after Wil Myers struck out to end the third inning when he and Bumgarner got into a shouting match and the benches cleared. But no one got cold-cocked and the game went on.

Drew Pomeranz (4-3, 1.80) gets the start in the second game tonight against Johnny Cueto (5-1, 2.97) at 7:10pm.
