Sometimes things get a little fuzzy during an evening at the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you may have missed while you were drinking.

The Padres (6-9) scored more runs than the Pittsburgh Pirates (7-8), 8-2, at Petco Park last night.

Drew Pomeranz (2-1, 2.04) struck out ten batters in six and two-thirds innings, giving up one unearned run on four hits and three walks. After letting two men on in the seventh inning, Kevin Quackenbush came in to relieve Pomeranz. Jordy Mercer hit an RBI-double that brought Sean Rodriguez home. In the eighth inning, Gregory Polanco ground out to first base, bringing David Freese in from third base.

Adam Rosales grabbed a really hard-hit ground ball down the line at third base and threw out Francisco Cervelli to end the sixth inning. In the ninth inning, Melvin Upton Jr. made two spectacular plays in left field for the first two outs of the inning. The first prevented a home run for Matt Joyce and the second was a line drive off the bat of Cole Figueroa that Upton raced to grab on the fly.

Jeff Locke (0-2, 7.24) didn’t fare nearly as well, lasting just three innings while giving up eight runs on eleven hits and four walks with two strikeouts. Alexei Ramirez lit up the scoreboard with a second inning single with none out to plate Upton. Newly called up Jemile Weeks had his first hit (that really should have been ruled an error) and his first RBI with another single to score Derek Norris. With one out in the second inning, Jon Jay‘s infield single allowed Ramirez to score and Wil Myers followed immediately with an infield single of his own to plate Rosales. With one out in the Padres’ third inning, Ramirez tripled to score Norris. Rosales singled to plate Ramirez. And Pomeranz’s two-out single scored Rosales. Matt Kemp then led off the fourth inning with his fifth home run of the season.

Today’s series finale features James Shields (0-2, 4.05) against Gerrit Cole (0-2, 4.22) at 6:10pm PDT.
