Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after spending an evening in the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking.

The Padres (37-40) scored more runs than the Arizona Diamondbacks (35-39), 7-2, last night.

Andrew Cashner (3-9, 4.22) finally got some run support and used it, giving up the two Diamondbacks runs while pitching seven innings with eight hits, no walks, and six strikeouts.

Jeremy Hellickson (5-5, 5.38) lasted five and a third innings, surrendering all seven Padres runs on ten hits and a walk with eight strikeouts.

Justin Upton hit his team leading fourteenth home run, a two-run shot in the fifth inning off Hellickson with two out. Besides Upton’s two RBI, the Padres got contributions from Yonder Alonso, Derek Norris, Matt Kemp, Yangervis Solarte, and Cashner, whose sixth inning suicide squeeze bunt single allowed Will Venable to cross the plate.

In this afternoon’s series finale, Odrisamer Despaigne (3-5, 4.83) takes the hill against Chase Anderson (3-2, 3.54) at 1:10pm PDT.

“The sinker’s finally back to where I think it should be. It’s down in the zone.”

“You have certain people on teams that you try to make sure don’t beat you, and he’s the guy on this club. I just kick myself. In that situation, I need to either walk him on four pitches … or make it more clear to our guys that he’s the guy that’s not supposed to beat us. I take the blame for that.”
