While You Were Drinking 2014 Game 44 (SD at COL)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after spending an evening in the pub trying to get past the thought of Cashner going on the DL with elbow soreness.  So here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking.  And crying.

The Padres (21-23) played a little Colorado Baseball in Denver, defeating the Colorado Rockies (24-20) by a score of 8-5.  Seth Smith and Carlos Quentin each had 2-run home runs.  Yonder Alonso hit 2 doubles and added 2 RBI.  Robbie Erlin (3-4, 4.53) pitched 5 innings of 4-run (4 earned) baseball on 9 hits and no walks with 2 strikeouts.

For the Rockies, starter Jordan Lyles pitched just 3 1/3 innings, giving up 6 runs (all earned) on 5 hits and 6 walks with 3 strikeouts.  Troy Tulowitzki hit a solo shot off of Erlin in the first inning and Carlos Gonzalez had 2 doubles & 3 RBI.

This afternoon at 1:10 pm PDT, the Padres’ Donn Roach makes his first Major League start against Juan Nicasio of the Rockies in the rubber game of the series in Coors Field.  Roach is getting the start in place of Andrew Cashner, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with elbow soreness.  Cashner will have a MRI on his elbow on Monday.

“Hats off to them for letting me put them on base and being patient when they saw I wasn’t attacking the way I usually do.”

“I think it’s one of the toughest decisions I’ve had to make … because I’ve been doing so well. But I think it’s smarter to take a step back now instead of keep pushing forward.”

Yonder Alonso rips a double to deep left, scoring Everth Cabrera and Seth Smith to open the scoring.

Seth Smith connects on a pitch and drives it to deep center for a two-run home run.

Robbie Erlin grounds an RBI single into left, scoring Will Venable to extend the Padres’ lead to 6-1.

The Rockies challenge call that Everth Cabrera was safe at 2nd base in the 6th.

Carlos Quentin delivers a big blast to left for a pinch-hit home run, his first of the season.

Chase Headley sprawls out to snare a liner off the bat of Troy Tulowitzki, ending the inning.
