While You Were Drinking 2014 Game 37 (MIA vs SD)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after an evening in the pub.  Especially when the Padres score 10 runs seemingly out of thin air against the other team’s ace.  So here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking.

The Padres (16-21) defeated the Miami Marlins (20-16), 10-1, thanks to Jedd Gyorkos two home runs against Marlins’ ace Jose Fernandez (4-2, 2.24).

Gyorko’s first home run was a 2-run, opposite field shot in the second inning that just barely made it into the Whiskey Deck in right field.  His second, a grand slam to left field with no outs in the sixth inning, ended Fernandez’s night at 6 runs (all earned) on 6 hits and a walk with 5 strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Tyson Ross (4-3, 3.02) held the Marlins to just one run, a solo home run from Marcell Ozuna in the seventh inning.

Alexi AmaristaWill Venable added an RBI each and Seth Smith added two of his own with an eighth inning double.

Tonight at 5:40 pm PDT, Eric Stults takes the mound and the Friars will try to keep their offensive fortunes going against the Marlins’ Nathan Eovaldi.  It’s a PETCO Park 10-Year Anniversary Canvas Art giveaway tonight too.
