While You Were Drinking 2014 Game 3 (LAD vs. SD)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after an evening in the pub, especially when Dick Enberg’s talking about “Bluebird” the pirate. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking.

The Padres lost to the Dodgers 5-1 in the final game of this brief Opening Homestand (freebie for you next year, Padres). Tyson Ross gave up three first inning runs, and was lucky to avoid doing any further damage. Carl Crawford led off with a double, Yasiel Puig reached on a throwing error by Ross, Adrian Gonzalez singled home Crawford. Hanley Ramirez doubled down the third base line to score Puig and Gonzalez, putting the home club in a 3-0 hole before a single out was recorded. Ross had little command over his repertoire, and wiggled out of jams he created for himself. If you missed this game and caught just about any Jason Marquis start last season, you’re up to speed. Ross finished with 5 hits, 4 walks,  7 strikeouts and 4 runs (3 earned) in 5 innings pitched.

The Padres offense managed 6 hits and 1 run, but were ultimately as impotent vs. Dan Haren as they were in game 2. Everth Cabrera and Nick Hundley each had a double and a single, with a Yonder Alonso single the vehicle for the only Padres run on the night. Donn Roach struggled in his Major League debut, surrendering 4 hits and the 5th Dodgers run over 1.1 innings pitched.

The Padres are off tomorrow, but begin a 3 game series on Friday in Miami vs. Jeff Loria’s Marlins. Your tentative starting matchup for that game is Eric Stults vs. Tom Koehler. First pitch is at 4:10 P.M. Pacific.

An additional  highlight from tonight’s game involved our own Padres Trail calling the bottom of the 4th inning as the Padres PA announcer.
