While You Were Drinking 2014 Game 17 (SF vs SD)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after an evening in the pub. So given the fact that PETCO Park is being overrun by GAINTS fans chanting “BAET LA,” here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking.

The Padres defeated the hated San Francisco Giants by a score of 2-1, led by Tyson Ross‘ 8 shutout innings. Ross had 9 strikeouts with only one walk and four hits. Huston Street came into to close it out and gave up a solo home run to Brandon Belt in the 9th. The Giants’ Matt Cain continued to get no offensive support, pitching 7 innings of four hit ball with two walks and 8 strikeouts.

Chris Denorfia hit a first inning triple and scored on a passed ball. Yasmani Grandal pinch-hit for Ross in the bottom of the 8th and hit a solo home run to right field.

Plate umpire Jerry Layne was sick, and there were only three umpires working this game. So that was kind of weird.

Tonight, the Friars send Eric Stults out to the mound to face the Giants’ Tim Hudson, with first pitch at 5:40 pm PDT. The Padres are giving away Jedd Gyorko replica jerseys and pet bandanas.

“The skill set that each of them bring to the club is valuable. I like all of our catchers working with all of our pitchers. I think Rene does do a good job, and I think all Nick and Yazi do as well.”
Bud Black (Sanders)

Chris Denorfia scores on the passed ball to give the Padres a 1-0 lead in the 1st.

Yasmani Grandal belts a solo home run to right field, his first of the year, to add an insurance run in the 8th.
