While You Were Drinking 2014 Game 156 (COL vs SD)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after spending an evening in the pub. So here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking.

The Padres (75-81) defeated the Colorado Rockies (65-92) 1-0 last night.  Rene Rivera hit an RBI double in the second inning to score Jedd Gyorko, who walked in the previous at-bat.  That was it.

Eric Stults (8-17, 4.42) pitched six and a third shutout innings on seven hits and one walk with five strikeouts.  The Rockies loaded the bases in the fifth inning with two outs, but Stults got Josh Rutledge to strike out to end the threat.

Tyler Matzek (6-11, 4.05) pitched arguably a better game, giving up the one run in six innings on four hits and three walks with eight strikeouts.

Nick Vincent, Frank Garces, and Dale Thayer also kept the Rockies off the scoreboard.  Kevin Quackenbush pitched the ninth inning for his sixth save.

Robbie Erlin (4-4, 4.53) starts tonight at 7:10 pm PDT against Jorge De La Rosa (14-11, 4.14) in the penultimate Padres home game of the 2014 season.  The Padres announced that the Shirts Off Their Backs presentations will be after tonight’s game to make it easier on the travel schedule after tomorrow’s game.

Well, we have Erlin tonight, followed by Wieland tomorrow, and Hahn pushing for a rotation spot next year. Did we just see Eric Stults’ last home start for the Padres?

    • Would not be surprised to see him back with the Padres next year. Not at all.
