Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after an evening in the pub. So here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking.
The Padres (66-72) were defeated by the Arizona Diamondbacks (58-81) by a score of 6-1. Andrew Cashner, the losing pitcher, gave up 5 hits and 4 runs (2 earned) over 7 innings. He struck out 5 while walking 2. A controversial play in the 5th inning helped lead to a three-run inning, with Buddy Black challenging a call on a play at home. Cory Spangenberg threw home to Rene Rivera, who appeared to possibly tag Alfredo Marte. The play was ruled safe, and was upheld on the challenge.
Josh Collmenter was the winning pitcher for Arizona, who also went 7 while allowing 5 hits. He struck out 3, walked 2, and gave up fewer runs than Cashner (1). Which is, you know, why he’s the winner. It’s the kind of tough luck that calls for a montage.
The series concludes at Petco Park this evening at 6:10 P.M. Ian Kennedy (10-11, 3.65 ERA) toes the rubber for the Friars, while Randall Delgado (2-3, 5.85 ERA) scales the hill in the middle of the grass field in a stadium located in downtown San Diego for the Diamondbacks. Did I do that right? Regardless of outcome, my prediction for tonight’s game?
