While You Were Drinking 2014 Game 133 (LAD vs SD)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after an evening at the pub.  Then you fall asleep and miss the last two-and-a-half innings.  So here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking.  And sleeping.

The Padres (63-70) defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers (76-59) in 12 innings last night, 3-2, on a walk-off RBI single by Yasmani Grandal.  The 12th also saw the Dodgers employ what was apparently the first-ever 5-man infield shift in history, with 4 players lined up on the right side of the infield when Seth Smith came up to bat.

Andrew Cashner (2-6, 2.37) surrendered just one run over six innings on six hits and no walks with eight strikeouts.  But the Dodgers tied up the game in eighth inning against Dale Thayer.  Kevin Quackenbush got himself out of a jam in the ninth inning.  Blaine Boyer shut the Dodgers out in the tenth and eleventh innings before Tim Stauffer was credited with the win after coming into pitch the twelfth.

Dan Haren (11-10, 4.33) nearly matched Cashner’s performance, surrendering two runs (one earned) in six innings on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

This evening at 5:40 pm PDT Ian Kennedy (10-11, 3.75) goes against the Dodgers’ Zack Greinke (13-8, 2.79).  Before the game the Padres will be inducting Trevor Hoffman into the Padres Hall of Fame.  They’re also giving out some sort of trucker hat-looking thing.  Of course it’s white, because why would you want to do something that looks different than your opponent’s color scheme?
