While You Were Drinking 2014 Game 107 (STL vs SD)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy when you spend an evening in the pub.  So here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking.

The Padres (48-59) dropped the hammer on the St Louis Cardinals (56-50) last night, winning 12-1.  The Friars were the beneficiaries of a solo home run to left field from Jedd Gyorko in the fourth inning.  Yangervis Solarte went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.  And Will Venable had a 3-run home run to right field that capped off an eight-run seventh inning.

Jesse Hahn (7-2, 2.01) pitched seven innings, giving up just one run on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Oh, and it was his 25th birthday, too.  The Cardinals’ Joe Kelly was pulled after five innings, surrendering four runs on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

This afternoon, at 12:40 pm PDT at Petco Park, the Padres will send Odrisamer Despaigne (2-2, 1.66) up against Shelby Miller (7-8, 4.20) in the final game of the series with the Cardinals.

Quote

“It’s more of a fresh start than anything. What happened at the beginning, you can’t go back and change it and you can’t say it didn’t happen either – it’s there. It’s not something I like to think about a whole lot, but it’s something you can learn from. Obviously, things weren’t right, but I think I’ve gotten to the point where I’m pretty comfortable now.”
Jedd Gyorko (Sanders)

@gdarklighter’s tweet about Enberg & replay is classic… and unfortunately true.
