Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after spending a Sunday afternoon in the pub. Here’s what you might have missed while you were drinking.
The Padres (51-54) scored fewer runs than the Miami Marlins (43-62), 5-2, in the series finale at Marlins Park.
Jose Fernandez (4-0, 2.13) struck out ten batters — including Justin Upton three times on nine pitches (Upton struck out a fourth time on three pitches in the eighth inning) — while not allowing a run in his six innings on four hits and two walks. In the ninth inning, Derek Norris singled and Jedd Gyorko struck out, sending Alexi Amarista to the plate. Amarista tied up the ballgame with a line drive home run to right field.
James Shields (8-4, 3.77) pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Both runs came in the first inning on back-to-back doubles to lead off the game from Ichiro Suzuki and Miguel Rojas. After reaching third on a Christian Yelich ground out, Rojas scored on a Derek Dietrich sacrifice fly. The Marlins did not score again until the ninth inning, when Brandon Maurer walked Martin Prado, Cole Gillespie ground out on a sacrifice bunt, and Jeff Mathis walked. Adeiny Hechavarria then hit a 1-0 pitch to center field for a three-run walk-off home run to end the game.
The Friars travel to Milwaukee to face the Brewers (44-62) for four games at Miller Park. Tyson Ross (7-8, 3.38) gets the start tonight at 5:10pm PDT against Wily Peralta (2-5, 3.90).

Ichiro's at bat and it's a cloudy day outside. I feel like I went back in time.

Since Barmes was named the starting shortstop, Amarista has started 9 of the 14 games. He also has 4 hits in that span #FreeBarmes #Padres

Almost an amazing catch by Venable. Almost. Ichiro's on 2B instead.

Ichiro was def getting a hit after FSSD graphic said he was hitless in 26 AB vs Padres

Shields' body language is not good #analysis

Pretty sure Amarista has started more games than Barmes since Murphy said that Ninja would be relegated to a superutility role.
— Grumpy Friar (@grumpyfriar) August 2, 2015
James Shields is my favorite pitcher ever for getting us out of that Vons story.

J. Gyorko and plate discipline walk into a bar

Not sure why I expected a different outcome that half inning.

I have that Kotsay bobblehead.

Take that, Jeffery Loria.

#Padres LF Justin Upton has struck out three times today against #Marlins SP Jose Fernandez — on nine pitches.
— Corey Brock (@FollowThePadres) August 2, 2015
Considering Marlins Park is painted green screen green, you'd think they would use that to make it look less shitty.

Dick Enberg is an anagram for "big redneck".

"I don't know how they count the attendance here." Probably the same way the Padres do when there's 10K additional people dressed as seats.

Sweet… Jackrabbit Capps is in to pitch again. This is stupid.
— Randy Gyorko (@GooseGyorko) August 2, 2015
I can always tell which team is playing the Marlins by which team's fans are whining about Carter Capps' delivery on twitter.

Alonso throwing a temper tantrum because he watched strike three go right through the center of the strike zone?
— Aaron Waldron (@waldo_aaron) August 2, 2015
Yonder liked that pitch so much he just couldn't bring himself to swing at it.
— Nathan Veale (@VocalMinorityNV) August 2, 2015
Would five strikeouts on 15 pitches be a platinum sombrero yahtzee?
— Vedder Cup (@VedderCup) August 2, 2015
Upton’s 4 strikeouts: Looking, swinging, swinging. Looking, looking, swinging. Swinging, swinging, swinging. Looking, Swinging, swinging.

Is it just me or does the Marlins outfield seem three times bigger on FSSD than every other outfield in baseball? It could be the Kook DIPA.
— Padres Jagoff (@PadresJagoff) August 2, 2015
Pitcher should have thrown his gum at Amarista after that bat flip IMO
— VM David (@VocalMinoritySD) August 2, 2015
Enberg just said the homerun won the game for the Dolphins.
— Gaslamp Ball (@gaslampball) August 2, 2015
Enberg just called them the Dolphins. Doesn't matter anyway #Padres
