While You Were (Day) Drinking 2014 Game 68 (SD at NYM)

Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after spending an afternoon in the pub.  So here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were spending the first half of the game at the Central Library, listening to Andy Strasberg and others talk about Strasberg’s new book, San Diego Baseball Fantography.

The Padres (29-39) ended their five-game losing streak with a 5-0 win over the New York Mets at Citi Field yesterday.  Jesse Hahn won his first Major League game, pitching six innings while only giving up one hit and three walk with seven strikeouts.  He also added his first Major League hit and RBI in the fourth inning.

The Mets’ Zack Wheeler gave up four runs on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts in his five innings.  Yonder Alonso had two doubles in five at-bats.  Chase Headley went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the eighth inning.

Today’s rubber game at Citi Field has Ian Kennedy taking the hill against the Mets and Daisuke Matsuzaka at 10:10 am PDT.

Quotes

“I was very relaxed this time. This time I went out there, I stayed focused, stayed calm and pitched my game.”
Jesse Hahn (Kring-Schreifels)

“Team meetings are probably one of the more overrated things in sports. You close the door and there’s already a negative tone. And a lot of times, it happens after a bad game and everybody is already upset. And then the same kind of stuff is said over and over again.”
David Wright (Martin)
