Sometimes things get a little fuzzy during Sunday brunch. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you may have missed while you were constructing a make-your-own omelet.

The Padres (50-67) scored fewer runs than the New York Mets (59-58), 5-1, in yesterday’s series finale at Citi Field.

Clayton Richard (0-2, 5.75) gave up just two runs on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts in five innings. Wilmer Flores hit a solo home run in the second inning. Neil Walker hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Jose Reyes scored on a wild pitch by Jose Dominguez and T.J. Rivera hit a double off Carlos Villanueva to drive in Ty Kelly and Jay Bruce in the eighth inning.

Steven Matz (9-8, 3.40) didn’t allow a hit in the first seven and a third innings, striking out eight against two walks. Travis Jankowski led off the game with a walk, took second base on a balk, but was thrown out trying to steal third base for the third out. Derek Norris drew a walk to lead off the sixth inning, but Adam Rosales ground into a double play. Alexei Ramirez hit a single in the eighth inning for the Padres first hit and Matz was taken out of the game. In the ninth inning, Wil Myers singled, advanced to second base on defensive indifference, and came around to score on a single by Yangervis Solarte.

The Padres travel to Tropicana Field to take on the Tampa Bay Rays (47-69) for three games. Tonight’s matchup at 4:10pm PDT pits Luis Perdomo (5-6, 6.80) against Drew Smyly (4-11, 5.04).
