Today is Memorial Day, and whether you are a ravenous fan of war (I’m sure you exist) or a normal human being, we can all agree that it’s worthwhile to reflect on the lives lost in war. The waters have been muddied, however, as baseball pays tribute today to…something. They seem really confused about what today is all about.
This is what the Padres will be wearing today, with the rest of the league wearing pretty much the same style of jersey.
This is what the Lake Elsinore Storm have worn this weekend, and will wear again on July 3rd (their final home game before July 4). I don’t even know what’s going on here. These jerseys will be raffled off to benefit the Storm’s “Pinch Hit For Kids” foundation, so at least some good will come out of this.
Baseball seems to be bunching every “patriotic” holiday into some catch-all tribute. I think it’s confusing, and loses focus on what Memorial Day is all about: remembering the lives lost in battle.
I want to give a simple thank you and RIP to the fallen.
The Vocal Minority posts every Monday, though Avenging Jack Murphy would like us to post more. I will do so, and do much better than this when I’m not coming out of one of what’s been a pretty bad 10 days for the family. At least the Time Warner Cable part of that shitstorm has been removed.
