Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after spending an evening at the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking.
The Padres (39-49) scored fewer runs than the Texas Rangers (42-44) at Globe Life Park in Arlington, TX, 4-3, to extend the Padres losing streak to six games.
Ian Kennedy (4-9, 4.91) lasted just four and a third innings, giving up all four Rangers’ run (three earned) on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Delino DeShields scored on a sacrifice fly from Prince Fielder (to 3B Will Middlebrooks. See first video below.) in the first inning to put the Rangers on the board first. In the third inning, Rougned Odor tripled to lead-off the inning and scored on a Carlos Corporan ground out to second base. Fielder and Adrian Beltre hit back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth inning with no outs to finish off the scoring for Texas. Dale Thayer, Odrisamer Despaigne, and Shawn Kelley pitched three and two-thirds innings of shutout relief for Kennedy.
Wandy Rodriguez (6-4, 4.07) pitched five and a third innings — giving up just one run on a lead-off home run from Melvin Upton Jr. in the sixth inning — on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts. In the eighth inning, Yonder Alonso walked, got to third base on a double by Matt Kemp, and scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by Justin Upton. Kemp then stole third base and scored on a throwing error.
