This is where we gather from time to time to talk about something big in the Padres world or just the Padres or just baseball. It’s a roundtable discussion. Except, you know, no round tables. This is a Public House . . . so we’re at the bar.

The Bar

It’s been awhile since we’ve sat in our comfy stools at The Bar, but what we now lack in tolerance we make up for in enthusiasm, so let’s get back at it.

Today we’re chatting about expectations for the Padres 2016 season. We all have different, changing perspectives, so what “expectations” means will be unique for each of us. Oh yeah, when we got here, Ghost of Ray Kroc was passed out down at the end of the bar.

Hey there. Long time no drink. I, for one, missed when we all get together to do this.

About a quarter of the way through the season, the Padres sit at 24-29 and 9.5 back in the NL West. They’re projected to finish the season at 78 wins and currently have about an 11% chance of making the playoffs, in almost all likelihood via a wild card spot.

There’s no question things aren’t going as expected. Aside from the based Seth Smith, the offense has been awful. While the team’s pitching, when not getting MRIs on various elbows, has been much better.

As the Cactus and Citrus Leagues open their doors each spring, fans across the country are filled with a renewed sense of hope and optimism. But it’s not just fans who bask in the promise that accompanies a new season – ball players young and old trying to earn a job at the big league level are consumed with it too. And each spring one of these players, whether it be a prospect or a non roster invitee, will accumulate such gaudy stat lines that fans will cry, “This guy is awesome! He should totally be on the 25-man roster!”

With games set to begin today, which player on the 2014 Spring Training Roster will blow us away with a super hero stat line this spring?

A season just wouldn’t be a season without bold win predictions rooted in gut feelings and hypothetical scenarios of injury-free summer months. So we gathered behind the scenes here at Padres Public to offer-up our thoughts on 2014.

What is your win projection for the 2014 Padres and why?
