The Padres (52-66) scored more runs than the Philadelphia Phillies (43-73) last night, 7-4, in the first of three games at Petco Park.

Travis Wood (2-4, 6.46) allowed two runs on six hits and two walks in five innings with three strikeouts. Rhys Hoskins hit a solo home run — his first as a Major Leaguer — in the fourth inning. Hernandez reached on a fielding error and Tommy Joseph came home in the sixth inning. Hoskins hit his second home run in the seventh inning.

Jerad Eickhoff (3-7, 4.33) gave up two runs (one earned) in five innings on five hits and three walks while striking out five. An Hedges sacrifice fly in the second inning drove in Wil Myers. Cory Spangenberg scored when Margot reached base on a throwing error in the fourth inning. In the sixth inning, Spangenberg scored on a Hedges single, Hedges took second base on the throw, Matt Szczur scored on Asuaje’s sacrifice fly, and Jose Pirela singled to drive in Hedges and Margot.
