A little under a year ago, you might recall that Fox Sports San Diego made the massive mistake were kind enough to extend Padres Public and Brady from Lobshots an invitation to appear on a Spring Training broadcast. Amongst other things, we spent some of our time off air harassing players/coaches walking by the set in right field (in my case, unaware of the danger I was putting Rick in by pointing him out to Will Venable). One such instance saw Angels manager Mike Scioscia walking by us, and I couldn’t resist greeting him with “Hey! Former Padre, Mike Scioscia!” To my surprise, he gives it a good laugh and replies “YOU REMEMBER THAT!?” I remember most inconsequential Padres, Mike. And today, we celebrate you.
Last year I submitted a mock Hall of Fame vote on the old Ghost of Ray Kroc blog. If you read it at the time, I’m shocked.
I do have a strong opinion on certain players not getting into the Hall because of PEDs: They shouldn’t be allowed to even be on the ballot, let alone get in.
But, they’re on there. Doesn’t mean anyone has to vote for them though.
A funny thing happened while we were watching the Padres’ opening day broadcast…
In what is sure to be a dead horse beaten beyond recognition by color commentators league-wide in 2013, Mark Grant brought up the fact that Jason Bay and Bobby Bonilla are the two highest-paid outfielders on the Mets payroll this season. Dick Enberg took that moment to discuss how the Mets paying Bobby Bonilla (a player who last put on a Major League uniform in 2001) was a cautionary tale for “small market” teams like the Padres to not spend big dollars on players.
Whoa. Let’s hold up here.
*This is kind of old now, but I never got a chance to write about it
I’m a huge Jimmy Kimmel Live fan. I watch it all the time and have even been to a couple shows in person. When he made the switch to 11:35PM on January the 8th, I tried getting tickets right away for that show, but in the end I failed (stuck on the wait list).
During that show Jimmy was interviewing Jennifer Aniston and apparently he’s pretty good friends with her fiance Justin Theroux. They recently went on vacation together and Jen just so happened to show off some pictures on the show from that trip. Here is one of those pictures:
