Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after an evening in the pub. Forgetting the fact you were at the game and spent all of your time from the 4th inning on at Neil the Beer Man‘s, here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking.
The Padres (4-7) dropped the second game of their series against Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers (6-3) last night by a score of 6-2. Verlander pitched 7 innings, giving up 2 runs on 8 hits and 1 walk with 8 strikeouts. Ian Kennedy started for the Friars, pitching 6 innings while giving up 4 runs on 8 hits and 1 walk with 7 strikeouts. Basically, everything went Verlander’s way.
Jedd Gyorko had a sacrifice fly in the first inning, scoring Chris Denorfia, who had stolen both second and third after getting a single. Yasmani Grandal drove in Chase Headley in the fourth inning for the Padres’ other run.
This afternoon, Tyson Ross takes the hill against Max Scherzer at 1:10 pm PDT. It’s Military Opening Day, the 75th* Opening Day participated in this season so far for the Padres, and the first Kids Fest of 2014.
