Keon Broxton hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning. Manny Pina tied up the ballgame with a solo home run in the eighth inning. Edwin Jackson (2-2, 5.00) pitched eight innings, striking out five while allowing three runs on eight hits and no walks. In the eighth inning, Jonathan Villar scored on a Scooter Gennett single and Ryan Braun hit a two-run home run.

Travis Jankowski scored on a Yangervis Solarte ground out and Solarte and Alex Dickerson scored on a Christian Bethancourt single in the first inning. Dickerson’s double in the third inning drove in Solarte. In the sixth inning, Wil Myers hit a two-RBI single to drive in Jackson and Jankowski and Solarte hit a two-run home run. Jabari Blash hit his first Major League home run with a opposite field shot to leadoff the seventh inning, Rondon scored on a Jackson double, and Jankowski scored on a Ryan Schimpf double. A Bethancourt ground out drove in Solarte in the eighth inning.

Christian Friedrich (0-1, 1.50) made his Padres debut in Andrew Cashner‘s (who was placed on the disabled list earlier in the day) spot in the rotation, throwing 116 pitches over six innings with four hits, six walks, and four strikeouts. Friedrich surrendered the only run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Chris Carter to score D0mingo Santana.
Junior Guerra (2-0, 4.00) pitched six innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out four. The closest the Friars came to getting on the scoreboard was in the fifth inning. Adam Rosales doubled with one out and took third base on wild pitch to Friedrich. But Friedrich struck out and Jon Jay grounded to second base for the third out.
