Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after going out to have coffee with friends & peruse the books at Barnes & Noble. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were doing that stuff I just said.
The Padres (35-39) scored fewer runs than the San Francisco Giants (39-33), 6-0, last night at AT&T Park.
Just like Andrew Cashner‘s start on Sunday, Ian Kennedy (4-6, 5.09) had one inning go horribly wrong for him. The Giants scored five runs in the third inning thanks in no small part to an error by Will Middlebrooks that allowed Andrew Susac to reach base to leadoff the inning. After a single, a sacrifice bunt, a walk, a sacrifice fly to score Susac, and another walk, Buster Posey deposited a ball in the left field seats for a grand slam home run. In the fourth inning, Susac “tripled” to right field and scored again on a single by Gregor Blanco.
Ryan Vogelsong (6-4, 4.05) shut out the Padres over six innings on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Javier Lopez, George Kontos, and Jean Machi combined to throw three perfect innings of relief to close out the win for the Giants.
