The Padres (40-51) were defeated by the Colorado Rockies by a score of 6-3 yesterday afternoon. All six Rockies runs were thanks to home runs, four solo and one two-run. Neither starter, Eric Stults for the Padres and Jair Jurrjens for the Rockies, figured into the decision. Joaquin Benoit was the loser after giving up Tulowitzki’s second solo home run and Drew Stubbs‘ two run shot in the eighth inning.
Jake Goebberts hit his first Major League home run in the fourth inning off Jurrjens. Seth Smith then hit one off on Jurrjens in the fifth. The Padres tied the score at 3 in the fifth when Chris Denorfia sprinted home on a Jurrjens wild pitch.
The Friars travel to Los Angeles to open a four-game series with the Dogers at Dogers Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 pm PDT tonight with Odrisamer Despaigne (2-0, 0.92) taking the hill against Clayton Kershaw (10-2, 1.85).
