In case you weren’t paying attention…

SABR held their Baseball Garage Sale last Saturday at RJ’s Grill. Man, you missed out! There was a lady making balloon animals, and a blow-up jumpie castle, and unlimited beer tasting (4-oz glasses, limit 6 at a time) from 11:30-1300…
OK, so most of that isn’t true. Still, it was a fun event to raise money for the Baseball Research Center at the SD Public Library.
Mrs. Trail and I got there at about 0930 to help set up. Row after row of tables with stuff on it that needed to be organized, so we hopped to it. Most of what we had was archival print material – Sporting News Newspapers from various years starting in the 1930s up to the 1990s took up 3 tables. Hard-cover and soft-cover books took up another 5. Sports Illustrated copies from the 1970s; I was amazed at how often baseball was the cover picture for SI back then. Ain’t true now, folks.

We made it to lucky #10! In this episode we discuss the Time Warner Cable/Fox Sports San Diego long overdue deal, the highs and lows and FanFest and then ramble on about a variety of other topics. LET’S PODCAST!
On a serious note, Melvin, Mike & myself would like to thank all of you for listening. We are truly shocked at how well the reception has been for this crazy thing and we’ll keep churning these out as long as you keep listening.
If you have any questions or comments, go ahead and leave them down below or e-mail us.
Football season is over. That can only mean one thing: Baseball season is right around the corner. And the first real event of any Padres season is FanFest (formerly known as FriarFest). This year, it’s this Saturday, February 8th, from 10am to 4pm.
Season Ticket “Members” get in early at 8:30am, with Early Access starting at 9:30am for the general public available by registering here.
So, what can we look forward to this year? Details are still sketchy. The full event schedule is usually not announced until a day or two before. The full promotional schedule for the 2014 season is supposed to be announced sometime later this week and there may or may not be examples of the giveaways at FanFest.
Here’s what we do know:
Here at Padres Public, we’re all about the Padres. And the Padres. But mostly the Padres. When we’re not talking about the Padres, that is.
Always enjoy responsibly. Don’t read and drive.
In case you missed it last week, Metz of Padres Trail announced that the San Diego Chapter of SABR would be having a Garage Sale fundraiser. Never one to turn down a garage sale, I put it on my list for the day.
As I pulled up around 8:45AM I expected to see a line waiting to get in and was shocked to find no one outside. I thought to myself, did I go to the right place? Was it the right day? Maybe no one is showing up and it can ALL BE MINE!! As I walked in I immediately realized that there were scavengers already digging through the stuff. Bloody savages! Doesn’t anyone have any etiquette anymore? It was at that point where I bum rushed a 90 year old lady and pushed her to the ground (I’m kidding) to get this….

Did you miss the Fan Fest Garage Sale? Did you wander by but found the relative scarcity of memorabilia items there depressing? Well, fret not.
Among my many other interests (bee hunting, obscure team hat wearing, beer drinking, etc) I am a member of the Society of American Baseball Research, and a part of the San Diego Chapter. This coming Saturday the Chapter will be holding a baseball memorabilia ‘Garage’ sale at the San Diego Hall of Champions (Balboa Park).
What’s being offered? Not much – just:
We’ll be there with the piece of Padres history you didn’t know you needed but suddenly can’t live without from 9am – 12pm (0900-1200 for you current/former military folks amongst us).
When you decide you’re ready to purchase that special item, please: Cash or Personal Checks only will be accepted. It is a garage sale, after all.
I look forward to seeing you there. I call dibs on the World Series Press Pins.
Mike mostly monitors the Padres from the safety of his own couch. Follow the madness @Padres_Trail.

So, here’s a weekly feature to whet your appetites: All of the week’s posts in one convenient location. Enjoy!
