Saturday was the annual Padres FanFest. Originally, I was going to write a recap of my day. But I was so bored there I didn’t even bother taking any notes and only took a couple of photos. I’ll let Ryan sum up the rest of my feelings on the last few FanFests:
@RJsFro it was a brilliant plan to slowly let it decay so nobody wants to go anymore and they can stop doing it.
Now that we have that (not unexpected) disappointment out of the way, I ended up going to Bub’s at the Ballpark with your good friend and mine, Nathan Zack. The plan was to meet Dave and Laura Perek there, which has become sort of an annual tradition for Nathan whenever he’s in town. I had never met Dave or Laura before, even though we’ve followed each other on Twitter for years, so I was excited to finally get to do that.
Over the course of the two hours we spent at Bub’s, I was introduced to a little game the three of them play amongst themselves where they make predictions about the upcoming season. I was intrigued, to say the least, so I joined them for this year’s edition.
What follows is all of our selections for this game. We don’t know how it’s going to end yet, but I’m pretty sure I nailed every category. I’ve put my selections in bold.
There are no stakes. There is no prize. It’s all for fun.
This Saturday, April 4th, the Padres will host their annual FanFest at Petco Park. There will be the usual garage sale, catch in the outfield, interactive forums and at 2:00PM the Padres will take on the Diablos Rojos del Mexico in an exhibition game that will be on Fox Sports San Diego.
At some point during that game, Jeff Cirillo connoisseur Brady of Lobshots, Robot Umpire overlord Dex of Gaslamp Ball, and the dashingly handsome Rick from RJ’s Fro, will “take over” the booth alongside Fox Sports San Diego’s Mike Pomeranz.
It will be the 3rd year in a row (2014, 2013) for this event.
We made it to lucky #10! In this episode we discuss the Time Warner Cable/Fox Sports San Diego long overdue deal, the highs and lows and FanFest and then ramble on about a variety of other topics. LET’S PODCAST!
On a serious note, Melvin, Mike & myself would like to thank all of you for listening. We are truly shocked at how well the reception has been for this crazy thing and we’ll keep churning these out as long as you keep listening.
If you have any questions or comments, go ahead and leave them down below or e-mail us.
Football season is over. That can only mean one thing: Baseball season is right around the corner. And the first real event of any Padres season is FanFest (formerly known as FriarFest). This year, it’s this Saturday, February 8th, from 10am to 4pm.
Season Ticket “Members” get in early at 8:30am, with Early Access starting at 9:30am for the general public available by registering here.
So, what can we look forward to this year? Details are still sketchy. The full event schedule is usually not announced until a day or two before. The full promotional schedule for the 2014 season is supposed to be announced sometime later this week and there may or may not be examples of the giveaways at FanFest.
