Sometimes things get a little fuzzy during an evening at the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you may have missed while you were were drinking.
The Padres (64-89) scored fewer runs than the San Francisco Giants (81-72), 2-1, in the first of four games at Petco Park.
Christian Friedrich (5-11, 4.66) pitched seven-plus innings, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out six. Friedrich started the eighth inning with a ground-rule double by Joe Panik and a single by Kelby Tomlinson. Brad Hand then relieved and a fielder’s choice groundout by Eduardo Nunez got Tomlinson. But Angel Pagan‘s single scored Panik and one out later a double by Hunter Pence brought Nunez home.
Jeff Samardzija (12-10, 3.83) shutout the Padres over seven innings, allowing four hits and no walks with nine strikeouts. Alex Dickerson hit a pinch-hit solo home run off Derek Law in the eighth inning.
