Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after spending a Sunday afternoon at the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you may have missed while you were drinking.
The Padres (70-80) scored more runs than the Colorado Rockies (63-86), 10-4, yesterday afternoon to avoid the series sweep and wrap up the season series.
James Shields (13-6, 3.86) gave up four runs in six and two-thirds innings on two hits and four walks while striking out eight. Charlie Blackmon hit a solo home run in the first inning. After a wild pitch, two walks, and another wild pitch that scored Justin Morneau, Shields was relieved by Bud Norris. Norris threw another wild pitch then gave up a two-run single to Ben Paulsen.
Kyle Kendrick (6-13, 6.37) pitched four innings, allowing six runs on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts. Yangervis Solarte hit a two-run home run in the first inning to put the Padres on the board. Matt Kemp hit two doubles and added a solo home run in the third inning. Jedd Gyorko added a solo home run in the third inning as well. And Cory Spangenberg hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.
