Petco Park Beer Scouting Report

Since it’s National Beer Day, we thought we’d give you two Padres and Pints posts in one day.

On Saturday, while at Padres FanFest, I did my best to hobble around on one knee and scope out some of the changes this year when it comes to beer. Not everything was open but here’s what I found out!

Mike Hess Brewing

I saw the Habitus Double IPAJucundus Orange Honey Wheat at the San Diego craft beer carts behind home plate on the field level. However based on the picture above, they may rotate it from time to time. There were also Bomber’s of Habitus and Grazias Vienna Cream Ale in the Craft Beers of San Diego stand next to Seaside Market and cans of Claritas Kolsch and Jucundus.

Rumor has it that their new “Open Mike” cans will be there soon too. These cans have removable tops which turns it into a cup and Hess is the first brewery on the West Coast to use this idea.

Also of note: the Jucundus was Brady & I’s celebratory beer of choice for the #BloggersTakeover and it was fantastic.

Noticeably absent was Green Flash. Maybe they were just missing for the day, but it appears that the United States #48 top selling craft beer company could possibly be M.I.A. at Petco Park this season. We’ll have to wait and see on this one.

Pizza Port is taking over as the main pizza of Petco Park. Filippi’s used to fill that role for the past few seasons.

A slice of cheese pizza will run you $8 a slice.

Also, they brewed a Petco Park Pale Ale. As you can see above, it’s a 5.7% traditional pale ale with a slight American hoppy twist. It’s a fantastic idea which we’ve been asking for at Padres and Pints land for sometime now. A ballpark themed beer.

-It appears that Mission Brewery will be a little less represented at Petco Park this year. A couple of their carts from last year are now branded with Pacifico signage.

-The Hall of Fame bar & grill will be (is?) sponsored by Budweiser. I’m not sure if only Budweiser will be served in there or not but, if so, that’s a huge downgrade.

-As we mentioned on Twitter, Deep Eddy Vodka signed a 3 year deal with the Padres. According to the press release, they will open a “branded seating area and bar that will be open to all fans, located in Petco Park’s left field corner terrace.”

Here’s the schedule for Ballast Point’s unique Firkin Friday events:
