Haiku-arrhea: Week 11 in Padres Baseball

In an effort to stay close to our roots, the staff at Padres Public, will offer-up a haiku each Monday to describe the previous week in Padres Baseball. Restricting our feelings to 3 lines and 17 syllables to describe a week of play is a massive undertaking, but (un) fortunately, we are more than up to the task.

What an amazing week. The Padres play six games at home against the leaders of the NL East and West and win all six. They move to .500 for the first time since April of 2011 and then for good measure defeat the D-backs yesterday to move over .500.

While we enjoyed the run of wins we were also treated to a touch of nostalgia as members of the ’98 NL Championship club returned for retro night on Friday. Well done by the Padres promotions team.

The Padres (35-34) head to San Francisco today (35-33) for a three game series (preview). Edinson Volquez will try to continue the run against San Francisco’s Barry Zito.

I want to believe also … but should I? I do value my sanity :-)

It comes down to this, imo … if the Padres believe, they will trade for a starting pitcher …

  • If I may, here is my “pre-game haiku” from Sunday:
Clayton on the hill / Waiting for his gem to shine / Series sweep today!
