Whack-a-Manager With Rick Sofield

After letting Pat Murphy know he would not be getting the job, the search began for a new manager of the San Diego Padres. Sources are telling us who is being interviewed for the position, so let’s take a closer look.

It’s time to play Whack-a-Manager with Rick Sofield!

Sofield was drafted 13th overall in 1975 by the Minnesota Twins. He played for the Minnesota Twins from 1979 to 1981, appearing in 207 games and recording 612 at bats for a career average of .243.

After his playing career ended, Sofield became the assistant baseball coach at the University of South Carolina and later the head coach at the University of Utah. After leaving Utah, he was a minor league manager for the Harrisburg Senators, Las Vegas 51s, and Colorado Springs Sky Sox.

Sofield is the Pirates’ current third base coach and was the manager of their Class-A South Atlantic League team, the West Virginia Power, during the 2012 season.
