The Beachers Wanna Get Better

The Padres announced this morning that coming in 2016, the Beachers will be making room for new “social space” group seating in the right center field area.

The current sand playground area will be moved up level with the K Street walkway between the Park at the Park and the Beachers, according to the renderings below.

The new social space will have a design aesthetic modeled after Southern California’s iconic piers. – via padres.com

Back in April 2013, we all sat around The Bar and brainstormed on what the Padres could do with the Beachers section, given that it was/is arguably the worst area to watch a game from. The Padres either never read it, or completely ignored all of our ideas. With good reason, I might add.

Instead, they chose to tear it all down and replace it with a two-level group area with a beach theme. Sun Diego Boardshops will sponsor the new area, which is going to be designed to resemble a pier.

The new area will hold approximately up to 600 people and the team says it will be sold as a group party deck for most games.

Along with the new section, Petco Park will be upgrading the lighting system to an LED system, the netting behind home plate will be expanded and upgraded, and the Lexus Home Plate Club will be getting new seats installed. Also, the Padres Hall of Fame is expected to be completedĀ behind the left field seatsĀ in time for the 2016 All-Star Game.

Another “group” party section with special admission prices, like the right field short deck and the space under the new scoreboard. This time, individual sale seats will be lost (I think they lost some under the scoreboard too). Brought to its logical conclusion, you’ll eventually have to join a group (or buy a season ticket) to watch a game.
