Playing Pepper with Cardinals Conclave

Since 2009, Daniel Shoptaw of Cardinals Conclave has done a season preview of each Major League team by asking questions of fellow bloggers. This year is the ninth edition of Playing Pepper and Left Coast Bias and I were asked to talk about the upcoming Padres season, along with Richard Dorsha of East Village Times.

As you’ll see, we¬†tried to answer honestly.

Honest answers? Yep, ya done it. I’d honestly say the 2017 Padres will win 88 games by playing teams that are down at the time, get a wild card, win again by playing teams in their down period, and win the Worlds Series. I’d also honestly say I’m going to win the lottery any week now. Good thing they didn’t ask me.

Those were great answers, especially the realistic season predictions. A team needs to be truly dreadful to lose 100 games, and while many of the Padres players are largely unproven, they have talent enough to become a mild surprise to the national experts.

I’m mildly surprised none of you mentioned Mike Dee, especially Dee’s worst bad decision, the contract with a radio station with limited broadcast reach, that’s doing nothing to promote the team or the games, so far. Overall, though, great showing, strengthening my faith in this newfangled internet thing.
