Padres Spring Training TV Broadcast Schedule

fssd1Fox Sports San Diego announced the San Diego Padres 2017 Spring Training broadcast schedule today, and it may surprise you how many games that FSSD is going to broadcast this spring.

This season, FSSD is going to carry 14 Spring Training games, all from Arizona. All but one game will be live, with the March 11 game against the Milwaukee Brewers being shown on tape delay. The Padres will also play the World Baseball Classic team from Mexico on March 7.

Neither of the two games in Mexico City on March 26 & 27 were broadcast on FSSD, but they were streamed on Padres.com.

I think this is a good thing. Gives us who can’t make it out to Peoria this year a chance to see some of these new players and minor leaguers ahead of the regular season.

What do you think? Are more Spring Training games shown on TV a better or worse thing?

I think this is evidence that FSSD is making a big push to promote the Padres. It could be that they see the future core of young players being brought up all at once as a great opportunity to punch up viewership during the regular season, as well as give the team a chance to pick up a large group of former local NFL fans. That’s assuming those former fans were telling the truth when they said they were done with that departed team and its league’s other owners who did nothing to stop it.
