More Than A Day
By Karl Fuchs
As Thanksgiving Day rolls around,
It brings up some facts, quite profound.
We may think that we’re poor,
Feel like bums, insecure,
But in truth, our riches astound.
We have friends and family we love;
We have guidance from heaven above.
We have so much more
Than they sell in a store,
We’re wealthy, when push comes to shove.
So add up your blessings, I say;
Make Thanksgiving last more than a day.
Enjoy what you’ve got;
Realize it’s a lot,
And you’ll make all your cares go away.
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday of the year. Last year, we gathered at The Bar to share a little of what we were thankful for.
This year I decided to do my own, mostly because I didn’t think of it in time to ask everyone else.
I’m thankful for…
A.J. Preller drinking the iced coffee that Josh Byrnes left on the table
Seriously. Preller just walked in, saw that coffee sitting there, and started chugging. Pablo Sandoval AND Yasmany/Yasmani* Tomás? Yes please.
*Special thanks to Tomás’ agent and the media for the utter confusion over whether or not it’s “Yasmani” or “Yasmany.”
Sandoval and Tomás giving Padres fans something to talk about this offseason
I can’t remember the last time a Padres offseason has been this engaging this early. It’s not even December yet and Padres fans are already chomping at the bit. Now, if the Padres and Preller can just pull the trigger on one of these deals out there…
Josh Byrnes taking a job with the Dodgers
Granted, it’s not the GM job. However the fact that Byrnes is now working for the Dodgers as a “Special Assistant to the President” — or whatever his title is — gives us one other thing to make fun of the Dogers for when something goes wrong for them.
Ron Fowler loosening up the purse strings (In theory)
Sandoval? Tomás? Preller has reportedly also asked about Matt Kemp and Yoenis Cespedes? Fowler has either gone nuts, or he’s trying to change the perception that the Padres are cheap. And he’s done it all without opening his mouth and inserting his foot. Either way, give me more.
Alesmith Brewing Company‘s .394 San Diego Pale Ale
Have you tried this beer yet? It’s quickly becoming one of my favorites, even without the connection to Tony Gwynn, with part of the proceeds going to the TAG Foundation. And it will be available all over San Diego in 6-packs in early 2015. Get your butt down to Alesmith and try it already! You’ll thank me for it.
Bud Selig’s retirement
The monthly stipend from the Padres’ front office for blogging about the team
I’ve got to tell you guys, those Friar Funds only good at the Petco Park box office** really come in handy. Especially during the offseason.
**There are no Friar Funds. I’m being facetious. And a little condescending.
What are you thankful for? Leave a comment or tweet me on the Twitter.
I write something for Padres Public just about every week (during the season) and usually on Wednesday morning. Since you’re likely already following me on Twitter, tell your friends, family, and well-wishers to follow me.
