Who are them?

As a kid I loved the film Young Guns, starring Emilio Estevez, Charlie Sheen, Lou Diamond Phillips, et al. Consequently, I’m given to quoting the late 80s film at the most inopportune times:

– “Buenos dias, sh*thheads.”

– “Many nights, my friend… Many nights I’ve put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You’re all right…”

– “Who are them?”

“‘They’, William. ‘They’.”

Well that last one is anything but inopportune. Initially an exchange between Emilio Estevez’ Billy the Kid, and Terrence Stamp’s John Tunstill, the dialogue applies perfectly to a tweet posted yesterday from Jason Parks of Baseball Prospectus:

This begs the question: Who are them?

Matthew Wisler, Frank Garces, Joe Ross, Justin Hancock, Erik Cabrera, Brandon Alger, Leonel Campos, Max Fried, Tayron Guerrero, and Walker Weickel.

As a Padres fan this is extremely exciting. It’s good news for us all.

The bad news? This content is up behind the paywall so if you want the scouting details on these electric arms you’ll need to pony-up for a subscription . . . and let’s be honest . . . if you’re spending time here at Padres Public you really are the type who would do well to pay the $5 bucks per month to get the ridiculously awesome content found there.

In a few years when these young arms are rising through the system don’t be the fan asking, “Who are them?”

  • “Are you sure it’s Joe Ross and not Tyson Ross,” asks one of the UT’s Padres bloggers?

  • In honor of this post I will now refer to them as the Regulators.
