You’re a towel!

Yes, I’ve used that title before. So sue me.

With the Towel Giveaway coming up this Saturday, I thought I’d take a look at some of the towel giveaways from years past. I don’t exactly collect Padres towels, I just have kind of acquired them over the years from going to all those games (of all the towels below, maybe 2 were purchased). The 2005 towel is still my favorite and I use that all the time.

Do you have some towels in your collection not listed below? Post them in the comments!

Described as an episode of Hoarders but with Padres stuff, .400 in ’94 can be found on Twitter & Facebook!!

My favorite is the American Flag one from 2002. I like it more for the memories than anything: it was a Saturday day game against the Yankees, Jake Peavy’s ML debut and just a gorgeous hot summer day.

Do you have a picture? I vaguely recall that.

I’ll take a picture of it tonight when I get home.

Apparently the comments section hates Safari. Sorry for all of the upload attempts.

We have a San Diego Chicken/7-up towel circa 1983. And glaringly missing from this list is the Beat LA towel from 2009-ish.

Yeah the Beat LA towel is one that I’ve been looking for. I have to add that one to the collection.

Those more recent towels have pretty nice designs. You also hear a lot about how corporations have taken over modern baseball, but looking at those late 80s towels reminds us that intense sponsorships have been around a long time.

My beef with the newer towels (last 4 years or so) is that whatever fabric they are made of the water just beads off of it and the towel does not absorb it at all….which is kind of the point of a towel, to absorb the water and dry off your body. Perhaps I need to wash it a few times first but “ain’t nobody got time for that”.

      • Melvin

No one indeed got time for that, washing towels. Psshhh. They’re self cleaning!

I don’t know how to get my pic from Instagram to here, but of the many I have (did Towel Night religiously from like ’86 to ’01 and a few times since), this is the one I look at most…I’m thinking it’s from somewhere between ’06 and ’08 …since it’s worthless as a towel (as others have pointed out), I decided it’s wall art behind my bar.

Here’s one for you. Somewhere between 1996 and 1999
